Hi, Daille,
Thanks for stopping by!
I loved history in high school, and thought I would major in it. Then I took a couple of religion classes, and ended up majoring in it--quite happily. And looking back after getting a doctorate in international relations, I sometimes wonder why I didn't take more history and political science. But the background in religion served me well in international relations, too.

And you're right to point out that colleges look for students who "fit" the type of education they offer. If, for example, your student presents himself as a very highly structured person who wants a prescribed curriculum--but is applying to a school that allows students a wider range of choice and few requirements--the college is going to see that the student is not a good fit.

All the more reason for students to consider these academic factors in selecting the right college.

Thanks again, Daille.

Interestingly Mark some of these same issues may be taken into account by the admissions officials who seek to determine whether the student is a good fit for the school.

The issue of choosing a college major brings home to me the fact that my son LOVES a different subject every year. From bio to geometry to physics and now to history. Heput anthropology on froms which require him to put a major but he admits and I know that it is likely to change.
