As an American, it will be hard to work in another country--you'd need a visa. I'd consider doing what the Brits do, generally: they work hard for six months to amass some cash, and then go spend it during the second half of the year. Maybe even just a semester. The thing is I need it to be relatively in expensive and possibly provide accommodation. While there I would like to work and make money and then go to college after that. It's not so much an adventure/service/travel excursion as it is a structured training and immersion opportunity, and for that I think it really stands out as a promising approach. I just wanted to be sure you were aware of this program as you assist students and their parents in finding the right program. Any student who seeks to have firsthand experience with global challenges and the cross-cultural fluencies to address them should start with a Global Citizen Year before college.
