Katherine, a former admissions representative, talks about how to prepare for and stand out at a college fair. Watch the video or read the summary below to prevent boring admissions representatives to tears by asking the same questions as everyone else!
So fall is the time of year where there are thousands of college fairs across the country. You probably have coming to your local area in the immediate future.
So, what should you know before you attend a college fair?
- Obtain a list of schools before you attend. This will help you narrow down the schools you would like to speak with and prevent you from being completely overwhelmed when you first arrive at the fair.
- Do some initial research. Look up some basic statistics about the school: size, location, majors offered, etc. Take if from a former admissions representative, the last thing you want to do is ask questions about information you can find on the internet.
- Develop some interesting questions. Take some time to think about what you really want to know about the school. Ask about a specific professor and the research they are doing. Ask for examples of what some alumni have done after graduation. Are there any study abroad programs specific to the major you are interested in? These are the types of questions that can start a great conversation.
Follow these steps and you will get the most out of your college fair experience
