collegessayChoosing a major can be one of the great mysteries of the college experience.  Many high schools students have no idea what they want to major in or what type of career they will choose.

While the process of choosing a major can be perplexing, you can still do some initial research in order familiarize yourself with the demands of certain majors.

A recent article, College Majors that Are Most Demanding, outlines survey results from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).   Seven popular college majors are ranked as the “most demanding”.  The article provides detailed information on average weekly hours of study/class prep time vs. the number of hours faculty expect students in this major to study.

While studying time and faculty expectations can vary, this survey information provides some initial insights into the demands of certain majors.  It can also help students determine questions they may need answered before venturing into one of the majors highlighted.
