An Experienced Counselor
With 20 years of experience as a professional school counselor, Sarah has had the pleasure of working with hundreds of students with different passions, goals, and personalities. She knows the challenges our teens and families face when they start the college search process. Sarah spends time understanding your student’s struggles with things such as personal adversity, life changes or learning differences. Using encouragement and her genuine curiosity, she connects with each student as an individual.

Sarah begins with the belief that students are in charge of their own lives, but parents and advisors lay the groundwork for them to make their best decisions. She uses techniques like motivational interviewing, strength-based coaching, and humor in her approach with students. She believes that building a good working relationship is key to the college advising process. When students can be honest and genuine, the best college fit falls into place more easily.
A Broad Worldview
To thrive and be successful in our interconnected world, experience among other cultures is key. Sarah has lived this value with extensive travel during her life. She was an English teacher in Japan for three and a half years and learned Japanese while she was there. She also studied Spanish in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her curiosity and compassion for people from other cultures inform her work with everyone. When she tours a college, Sarah strives to discern the care and respect it has for our diverse society.

Personal
Sarah lives with her husband and two sons in Boulder, Colorado. She volunteers with her son’s marching band and loves music of all types. For over twenty years she has sung with a respected choral group. She also maintains an active lifestyle through biking, hiking and running in beautiful Colorado. When she finds the time, she loves to watch comedy–and she has even dabbled in improvisational theater.
