The Common Application and Docufide Partner to Make Applying to College Easier for Students and Their Counselors

The Common Application keeps getting easier to use, and more and more features are streamlining the process of transferring documents from schools to colleges and universities.
An announcement came out the other day that Docufide will work with the Common Application to transfer transcripts directly from high schools to colleges.
This is a boon for students–and their counselors. Yay.

Parents Prep for College

As we enter the latter half of the summer, and my graduating seniors prepare to depart for college, parents are preparing for that day in your own ways.  Some parents are going into mourning, while others are doing a little happy dance.

I came across this feature in the Boston Globe, which gives some perspective on how parents are preparing for the transition from high school to college.

Parents:  think back to when you left for college.  Did your parents drive you there, or did they (like mine) just put you on a plane and wave goodbye?

How often did you call home?  How often did your parents call you?

Feel free to leave a comment.  Enjoy the rest of the summer!

End Student Loan Scams

An editorial in today’s New York Times supports President Obama’s plan to remove the private sector from the business of providing student loans. Instead, the government will lend directly to students, through the intermediary of the colleges and universities.
This seems very sensible to me, and pretty much the only way to eliminate the scams and profiteering that have characterized the student loan industry.
If the government is loaning the money, the government should control how it is lent.
Here’s today’s editorial in the Times.
