Ms. Ray comes to independent educational consulting from the world of college admissions. Most recently, she was the Senior Assistant Director of Admission at the University of Colorado-Boulder, where she led a variety of initiatives to reach out to high school counselors, to improve campus visits for prospective and accepted students, and to bring more parents and alumni into both the recruiting and the orientation process at CU.
Ms. Ray earned her Master’s Degree in Higher Education from the University of Denver’s Morgridge College of Education, where her focus was on student development. “I see the decision of which college to attend as an important milestone in a young person’s development,” said Ms. Ray. “My aim is to ensure that each individual student approaches this decision fully prepared with the information, skills, and mindset necessary to make the process successful, but also personally rewarding—and even a little bit fun.”
“I’m delighted to have Cara as a part of our team,” said President and Founder Mark Montgomery. “Cara brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to bear on helping students find the best college for them.”
Montgomery also noted that Ms. Ray has experience working with all sorts of students. While at CU, for example, Ms. Ray also served on a team devoted to the recruitment of under-represented students as part of the Access and Community Affairs team. She also directed Talented Scholar Recruitment for the University, and served on the Finalist Review Committee for Colorado’s very competitive, state-wide Boettcher Scholarship.
Ms. Ray also is an active member of the admissions profession. She was elected to the Executive Board of the Rocky Mountain Association for College Admissions Counseling (RMACAC), and served as a representative on the Executive Board of the Colorado Council for High School / College Relations. She also is a member of national and regional admissions organizations, and has presented at professional conferences.
Prior to her arrival at CU-Boulder, Ms. Ray was a senior intern in the Office of Admissions at Colgate University, where she led many a college tour, and also helped organize the infamous CRUSSH tour of colleges in upstate New York for college counselors from around the country.
A native of Vermont, Ms. Ray graduated cum laude from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where she sang in an a cappella vocal group, was an avid figure skater, and served on the Colgate Diversity Council. She lives in Boulder, Colorado with her husband and two dogs.
