An article in yesterday’s edition of Inside Higher Education commented on the National Association for College Admissions Counseling’s annual “State of Admissions Report.” The article mainly focused on the finding that more colleges are admitting students through the early decision process.
The report showed that about 47% of colleges stated that they had an increase in early decision applications last year, which is comparable to previous years. However, 65% of colleges reported admitting more students through early decision, versus 43% the previous year.
Some students and parents may read this statistic and be elated, but this is not your “easy in” to your favorite college. There still are some very important questions you need to consider before you sign that binding agreement.  Applying early decision is not something you can do just to have a better chance at being admitted.
